Do I have to be a British Cycling member to enter?
No, you don’t need to be a BC member to enter the event. Simply click on the ‘ENTER’ button on the British Cycling website and then click ‘REGISTER’. You will then need to enter your details to sign up for an account, which is free and will enable you to enter other BC registered events.
What are the age restrictions for the rides?
Children (under 18s) must be accompanied by an adult. The minimum age of participants for the ride is 14 years.
What kind of bike do I need?
You will need a good quality mountain bike. Any type of mountain bike will be ok for the route (except a downhill bike!) although an enduro or trail type bike would be best suited to the rocky and steep descents.
Are there any riders’ gifts for entering the event?
If you’re one of the first 50 entrants, you will be entered into a prize draw to win a pair of Bontrager Flat Line shoes (donated by our event partner Trek Sheffield) or a bottle of wine (donated by Enzygo). Additionally, all riders will receive a free water bottle, compliments of Trek Sheffield.
Is there plenty of car parking for the event?
Yes! We have kindly been given permission to use Liberty Steel’s car park, which is adjacent to the Fox Valley Shopping Centre (event HQ is located here in the Trek Sheffield shop). There should be ample car parking available for all participants on site, although there is also free on-street parking available nearby.
Will there be any feed stations on the routes?
There will be a feed station mid-way through the route which will be well stocked with food and drink, including sports nutrition and regular food and drink.
How fit do I need to be?
The MTB route is not to be underestimated! It may only be 31 miles but the trails are tough, technical and steep. You will need to have a good level of fitness as well as good bike handling skills.
